Computer Hate.

Hello again,
I am writing you from my new laptop, purchased without much consideration from an unnamed Big Box office supply chain store. I went for the cheapest model and adamantly refused their extended warranty upsell. Basic requirements, Must Turn On and must allow me to Surf the Web. I will type this piece of trash into the ground until it decides to turn itself off forever like my last computer. It's just a thing, a tool people. Don't get hung up on Gadgets and Branding or "They" have worked their magic on you and won. You are a victim of Things and you can never keep up.
Everything died on me this week, phone included. I spent two hours at the Fido kiosk trying to fix my phone before I realized I could just get a free Black Berry and be done with it all. I signed a new three year contract and got a special deal since I've been so loyal for ten years.
May as well. I already chipped it so it can't be precious anymore. Again, a tool. A means to an end. So many frustrating technological encounters this week setting up internet at the new shop blah blah. I have many children to take care of- stores, apartments and cars and phones and computers. My life felt very complicated this week. Is my true nature to leave it all behind and build a cube-like wooden structure in the country with Peedge, get a scraggly dog and sell antiques by the roadside?
One day soon, but for now I battle the city and this wretched humidity. My kingdom for a dry, cool breeze.

"Don't get hung up on branding"? Did you just say that? Don't you spend a significant portion of your life wading through used clothing, searching for little tags with the right brands to stock your shop with?

Brands are just as important with tech stuff. If you can't be bothered to do research, find a nerdy friend and bring them with you when you are shopping.Thats what I did when I needed to buy a "really nice suit" last year.

BdgBill Bill- As usual, I can rely on you to be the Human Contradictions Police!!
I don't look for brands for my shop, most of it is ubiquitous no-name retro clothing. I tried to search for 'names' in the beginning but quickly realized that the majority of shoppers didn't care about brands but how good something looked on them.
I DO however, appreciate a timeless, quality item but my point about technological devices is that you can buy the top-of-the-line this or that but it will be completely worthless in two years. You can't say that about a 50 year old dress or chest of drawers. Nobody will be collecting 2009 Nokia cell phones in the future.
